Dev Blog #3 (November 2023)

30 November 2023

Hello once more, Tacticians!

In-between Halloween and Christmas, November happened! It’s been a really exciting month for us, and we’ve made a lot of progress on Skygard Arena. Let’s get into it!

The Paris Games Week 2023 Recap

From November 1st to November 5th, we showcased Skygard Arena under the Jeux Made in France banner at the Paris Games Week expo! It was the first time we had a physical demo of the game, and it was a fantastic experience! Here are some pictures of our booth:

We’ve had more people than I could count coming to play our game, and here are our main takeaways from the Paris Games Week:

  • People really liked our art direction - our Heroes’ visuals attracted many players to our booth;

  • Our tutorial was neither too long nor too short, and perfectly taught our players how to play;

  • Players enjoyed battling one another, and could do so very easily thanks to our premade teams - but some testers also spent time building their own team!

  • We’ve also gotten a lot of feedback regarding our user interface and general gameplay - there’s always room for improvment!

  • Last but not least, people loved Skygard Arena, and were eager to see what’s next!

All in all, over 300 games of Skygard Arena were played during Paris Games Week, and no less than 146 people joined our Discord server (which you should join too, if you haven’t already 😉)!

Our first PvE mission!

Among other things this month, we’ve completed the development of some of our first PvE missions! In October, we talked about Champei’s unique mission, featuring her leafy minions. In November, we’ve breathed life into these leaves! Take a look at this lovely little sprite in action:

You might have noticed that the grass looks rather different than usual. This battle takes place in a unique Arena, showcasing Champei’s connection to nature. Here’s what it looks like in full!

The Special Cells you can see spread around the Arena serve a special purpose - can you guess what it is?

We’re planning on creating more unique Arenas for each faction, each with their own unique theme and objectives. You’ll be able to discover them in the game’s PvE campaigns!

Playtest incoming!

I know you all have one question in your mind: when will we be able to play the game? The answer is… very soon, actually!

We’ll be holding a Community Playtest in early December, where you’ll be able to test our first PvE missions and enjoy PvP matches with friends or against devs! If you’d like to join, make sure to check our Discord server, where we’ll announce specific dates for our Playtest and recruit Playtesters!

And that’s a wrap for November! We hope you have a fantastic December, and we bid thee farewell ‘till next month! Take care, and see you all in the Arena!
